Respect for the victims requires the denunciation of their oppressors
On the day of the victims of hate, violence and prejudice against transgender people, we ask ourselves: What does the Catholic Church think of transgender people and their right to sex reassignment? Who can explain it better than pope Francis? Let's listen to him.
Regarding the possibility of sex reassignment of transgender people, he says that today in schools children are taught that they can "choose their sex" (without giving any proof of this false and serious accusation, which trivializes the necessary respect for transgender people in education). And he comments: “We are experiencing a moment of the annihilation of man as the image of God… Behind all this there are ideologies… true ideological colonizations. And one of these - I will call it clearly by its name - is “gender”... They are ideological colonizations, also supported by very influential countries. And this terrible! In a conversation with pope Benedict, who is in good health and very perceptive, he said to me: “Holiness, this is the age of sin against God the Creator”. He is very perceptive. God created man and woman; God created the world in a certain way… and we are doing the exact opposite…”(07/27/2016, cf. www.vatican.va).
I invite LGBTIQ people to reflect very carefully on what the Catholic Church thinks and forces us to think about transgender people. I invite LGBTIQ people to reflect on their misguided applause to pope Francis. The Catholic doctrinal system, which he supports and maintains, is at the base of hate, violence and prejudice against transgender people. Today we also remember the victims of this ideological persecution promoted by the Catholic Church.
If you want to respect the victims, first you must denounce all their oppressors. You cannot respect the victims and at the same time applaud their oppressor.
